Cagayan Freeport — The Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) has completed major improvements in Port Irene, particularly the construction of new warehouses to provide better office and storage facilities for locators, registered enterprises, and accredited port users.

Located in Barangay Casambalangan, Sta. Ana, Cagayan, the 50-year-old Port Irene is the main port in Region 2 and the gateway for raw materials, goods, and finished products from the zone.

The port is also being positioned as the leading international port in the Northern Philippines, capable of accommodating panamax and capesize vessels.

Secretary Raul Lambino, CEZA Administrator and CEO said the 2-4 units warehouses of Port Irene are now available for lease and expected to provide better services.

In May this year, Mr. Leonardo Cruz, Officer-in-Charge for the Cagayan offices said that there were 12 newly-constructed units of warehouse and warehouse offices within the port area and will soon be ready for use.

These warehouse units have expanded carrying capacity for imported and exported goods measuring 6,345.60 and 11,893.28 square meters for 4 units and 2-4 units, respectively.

The completion of the facilities is also the agency’s response to the Department of Agriculture’s call for the need to establish more cold storage facilities in the country to reduce post-harvest losses and improve farmers’ income.
